cloud computing researchIDG Enterprise’s year-end  Cloud Computing Research 2014 was consummated with the intent of measuring cloud computing trends among business and IT decision-makers including usage and plans across different cloud service platforms and deployment models, investments, business drivers and impact on business strategy and plans.

Key cloud computing research findings include:

  • A majority of companies are still working to identify IT operations that are candidates for cloud hosting.
  • Cloud computing research investments are up over last year, however, with enterprise organizations investing significantly more.
  • Private Cloud is the preferred model; however, growth in all models is expected through 2015, at least.
  • Lower TCO is a major selling point for both Private & Public Cloud.
  • IT is involved more often than non-IT decision makers when determining what Cloud solutions to purchase.
  • Most are confident that the measures/policies in place at their organizations will keep information in the cloud secure. However, they are still concerned about enforcing those policies.
  • When it comes to making Cloud offerings more attractive, vendors should consider organization size. Enterprises want different info from vendors than SMBs.

IDG Enterprise’s 2013 Cloud Computing Research was conducted online among the audience of six IDG Enterprise brands – CIO, Computerworld, CSO, InfoWorld, ITworld, and Network World – via web pop-up LinkedIn forums and email invitations. Results are based on 1,358 respondents.
